Saturday, April 21, 2012!

Dear Friend of Literacy:
The Brownsville Literacy Center Board of Directors is pleased to announce the 14th annual Symphony in the Park to be held on Saturday, April 21.
“Chanclas and Tchaikovsky” is the theme for this year’s exciting event that will entertain the entire family. We are fortunate to welcome the Valley Symphony Orchestra to treat us to the classic sounds of Brahms, Dvorak, Gould and Tchaikovsky.
Symphony will return this year to its original venue, Washington Park, where concertgoers can picnic and children will enjoy “Play Day at Symphony” activities. Other additions this year include the “Taste of Symphony” VIP tent and a “bucket” auction with super items up for bid.
Symphony in the Park benefits Brownsville Literacy Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving reading and writing competency in our area. Brownsville Literacy Center helps individuals develop their written and verbal communication skills through appropriate and accessible educational programs.
All funds raised from “Chanclas and Tchaikovsky” will help support BLC’s programs such as English-as-a-Second Language (ESL), the Mobile Learning Lab and the Family Literacy Program for preschool-age children and their parents.
I am honored to have been selected as this year’s Symphony event chair. Although I am a newcomer to Brownsville, I have come to know and love this area over the past 12 years while visiting my parents in Rancho Viejo. I feel very comfortable here and this is where my children and I will make our home for years to come.
Thank you for your continued support of our goal to promote literacy and to provide families in our community the opportunity to succeed.

Sincerely,
Amy Tygrett
